Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – November 2018

So…I wrote this post last week, and was literally bragging about the mild weather while I had been seeing snow on other peoples’ feeds. Well, I guess it’s just winter now?  I wasn’t expecting to have much of anything still blooming since last month, and up until early this week, everything described below was still in bloom. As of today, only the Camellias still
seem to have any flowers.

I am so glad that I learned about camellias through @ourgardenstory on Instagram. I really enjoy looking out in my garden and seeing bright pink blooms in the middle of fall. Particularly on dreary days, they really brighten up the garden.

I haven’t seen many pollinators still around, but I guess this guy will do – hanging out on the Camellia Shi Shi Gashira

The rest are flowers that have been around for a while, but are still hanging on. The lantana have spread out really well. I didn’t know they got that wide, but I’m happy that I gave them a lot of space and that they seem to have become well established.

The story of my garden in November seems to be “plants that should be done blooming but somehow just keep on going.” The foxglove was one of my first plants to flower in the spring, and it still has flowers on it. Granted, it looks a little rough, but that’s okay. This vinca popped up out of nowhere even though I didn’t plant it in the first place, and it’s still going too!

My volunteer vinca put out another tiny bloom 🙂

While not perfect, I think the hydrangea flowers are pretty as they fade away

I know this is supposed to be about what is blooming right now, but I just love all the beautiful foliage happening! The leaves change quick, but when they do, they are show stoppers!

Happy Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day! Do you have anything still blooming this fall? I would love to hear from you!

  1. How rotten to have Mother Nature rain (or snow) on your parade! Still, it’s wonderful to have a few flowers that stand up to the cold and your fall foliage is glorious. We don’t get much of that in SoCal.
