Most of the flowers I have in the garden are starting to fade, but I have a few still going! For this Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day in September 2018, I’m happy that some of the flowers I’ve planted have very long bloom times. The crepe myrtles, hydrangeas, and dahlias are still going strong; the lantanas were a good choice for late summer color; and the coreopsis have had a surprise rebloom.

I plan to buy some Encore azaleas so that I can have some fall color, and the Instagram community (@ourgardenstory in particular) has turned me on to camellias for winter blooms. Both are evergreen shrubs as well as having blooms, so I am here for that.
Another flower that has made a surprise appearance in my garden is the annual Vinca. Another one for the “I didn’t plant this” files. When we moved in three years ago, the homeowner had planted some vinca flowers. I wasn’t a huge fan, so I just let them die. Well, it’s possible that they have reseeded every year and that this is just the first year that I have noticed them. Or, as other Instagram friends have mentioned, the seeds could have blown in the wind, or a bird could have dropped them. Who knows. They fit the color scheme I have going for the backyard, so I think I will move them back there. Maybe they will reseed again!

My water bill has definitely gone up this month trying to keep everything alive!
I wish I could grow lantana as a perennial where I am, but it would only be an annual. I love it. My coreopsis looks about like yours! I am going to plant more of the perennial ones for next season. They are such big bloomers.
